Call To Worship
David wrote of the call to worship in the 100th Psalm.
1)Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands! 2) Serve the LORD with gladness; Come before His presence with singing. 3) Know that the Lord has made us, and not we ourselves, We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. 4) Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. 5) For the LORD is good, His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endured to all generations.
The call to worship is universal. Yahweh says we are to have no other gods before him. Ex. 20:1. All the lands are required to worship him. That means all the people of all the lands. We must serve with gladness. We often say, serve with a smile. It should not be grudgingly, as is true of giving, God loves a cheerful giver. He also loves a cheerful worshiper. Have you answered God’s call to worship?
We worship by coming before His Presence with singing. Everything that has breath, in the heavens and earth are to praise Him. (Psa 148) Even all the creatures of land and sea, the elements, cattle and creeping things are to praise God. “Let everything that has breath praise the LORD.” Ps. 150:5
We worship God and give Him glory because He made us. We did not create ourselves. The LORD (Yahweh) is our Creator. We come into his gates to praise him. In the Old Covenant, the gates belonged to the temple. Today, the gates refer to the church. Have you answered God’s call to worship?
Only through the church do we have access to the Father through Christ. “Unto Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, forever.” Amen. (Eph. 3:21) There are no physical temples today, (John 4:19-24). The Most High does not dwell in temples made with hands, (Acts 7:49) God is a Spirit and those who worship Him must worship in Spirit and in truth.
David said we are to worship because of God’s goodness and mercy. Has God been good to you? Is he merciful to you?
- Does he allow the sun to rise upon you each day?
- Does he clothe and feed you?
- Has he raised you up from sickness and healed your pain?
- Does he provide a job and means for you to support your family?
- Has he given you love and mercy?
- Has he given you rain and fruitful seasons filling your hearts with joy and gladness?
For all these and more our hearts should be open to worship God.
It is our duty as the children of His flock. Have you answered God’s call to worship? God is angry with the wicked who will not worship Him. In the heavenly scene in Revelation chapter 4:11, we read that the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying:
You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, and by Your will they exist and were created.
Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. (Heb. 13:15) Answer God’s call to worship Him today. If you need assistance, call us at 901-601-0548.
